PTSD – Post-traumatic stress disorder: I utilise EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing) to support clients with Post Traumatic Stress. When a trauma occurs it can get locked into the nervous system with the original picture, feelings, thoughts, sounds and sensation of the event. Because it is locked in it continues to be triggered whenever a reminder comes up. This can cause a lot of discomfort and negative emotions that we seem to have very little control over. This discomfort is really the emotions connected with the old experience that is being triggered.

EMDR is an 8 step process that helps clients to heal themselves. As a sufferer of PTSD you already have the information you need to resolve the problem however often the link between the experience of the trauma and the resolution is broken. The process of EMDR then links this together, therefore the client is in total control and creating their own healing.

There are some circumstances that EMDR is not the appropriate therapy option therefore this will be discussed during your initial consultation.
