Ruth Prowse Hypnotherapy Marlow Bucks provides professional and effective hypnosis sessions for a variety of challenges

Hypnotherapy is a safe and natural technique that provides lasting results. Ruth’s approach will support you to release limiting beliefs so that you can live your life to the fullest.

Hypnotherapy is often perceived as mind control, making people cluck like a chicken and brings about images of stage hypnosis “look into my eyes, not around my eyes but into my eyes”

At Ruth Prowse hypnotherapy I want to eliminate all of the misconceptions. I build a trusting relationship with clients, creating a space where they can share their worries and fears and then support them to heal themselves and make positive changes in their life.

Hypnotherapy is recognised by the NHS as a complimentary therapy and can support individuals to change thoughts, feelings and behaviours so that they can live happy and fulfilling lives.

There is no magic involved hypnotherapy is a very simple technique. Hypnosis taps into a natural state that you enter many times a day, an example of this is when you are on autopilot. Say you are driving a familiar route and once you get there you can’t remember stopping at the traffic lights or going over the round-about. What has happened is your subconscious mind that knows how to drive has taken control and your conscious thinking mind has taken a break. In hypnosis you will experience physical relaxation and mental relaxation allowing your conscious mind to tune out, to relax and rest so that your subconscious is open to change. It’s like a power nap with a purpose.

Meet Ruth Prowse

Clinical Hypnotherapist

Psychology BSc, Hypnotherapy Practitioner Diploma, Certificate in Stress Management, EMDR Practitioner and KG Hypnobirthing Practitioner

I have a wealth of experience in dealing with many issues such as anxiety, low self-esteem, trauma, sleep problems, relationship issues, addiction and depression. I have personally experienced what a powerful tool hypnotherapy can be with my own stress and sleep problems plus I used it as a relaxation technique through the birth of my son.

As a Practitioner I have witnessed how quick and effective it is with clients that have suffered with issues for many years. I have always been interested in the power of the mind and it brings me great joy to support others. I live for that light bulb moment when I see a shift and my clients (it’s almost addictive).

Ruth is based at her office in Marlow Buckinghamshire, close to Windsor, Henley, Maidenhead and Reading

I am Marlowian born and bred, a wife and mother of a wild three-year-old boy. I am fuelled by popcorn and cups of tea.

What is Hypnotherapy and EMDR?

Hypnotherapy is the use of words to create physical and mental relaxation to reprogram negative and limiting thoughts and beliefs. This approach brings about positive change in behaviour and allows individuals to live their life to the fullest.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) which is a technique using eye movement to unlock the nervous system and release any trauma or stress by allowing the brain to process the negative experience. It is proven to be very successful in cases of PTSD, trauma and anxiety.

Can anyone be hypnotised?

No. You can not be hypnotised unless you want to be. It’s important to remember that clinical hypnosis is very different from stage hypnosis. Clinical hypnosis uses relaxation techniques to make positive changes in an individuals thoughts and behaviours. Someone will resist hypnosis if they do not want to make the changes or they do not find the suggestions acceptable.

Will I remember what has happened?

Maybe. Sometimes people do not remember what has been said to them, this is a sign of a deep trance state, however, your subconscious mind will remember all the positive suggestions that you wish to take on. Other people have complete recall with “in a trance” like state.

Can I be influenced to do anything against my will?

No. Hypnotherapists do not have control over their client. Hypnotherapy is a trusting cooperative relationship between both the client and therapist and the client will only take on suggestions that are reasonable to them.

What does being hypnotised feel like?

It is a natural altered state to be in, for example when you are on auto pilot. Some examples of feelings during hypnosis include:
Lightness or Heaviness
A change in temperature (due to blood flow)
Time distortion (what seems like 5 minutes can be 20 as the conscious side of your brain is relaxed which is in control of time)
Slower breathing
Loose and limp muscles even a tingly feeling in muscles
Changes in complexion flushed cheeks
Can’t recall what has been said or only parts of what has been said

Can anyone get ‘stuck’ in hypnosis?

No. A properly trained professional will return you to a full state of awareness at the end of the session. If there was a fire alarm or some other danger your subconscious would ‘wake’ you up and you will return to a full state of awareness.
